Hope
Client:
Welsey Street Clinic
Year:
2020
We were contacted by this children’s clinic with a request for a mural that would spread a message of hope to the neighbourhood. The Wesley street homeless encampment was at a peak in the area and the negative mental health effects of homelessness were amplified by a lack of services to support the diverse needs of the community, including businesses and residents. We were asked to create a mural appropriate for a pediatric clinic, that would also spread joy and hope to the surrounding neighbourhood, in addition to navigating the challenges of uneven ground and height of the building. We designed this piece to show a loving friendship and care between two young children. The heart balloon pays homage to the health care and social workers on the front line during the pandemic. The bright blue butterfly symbolizes hope for our community’s collective future.
