Memorial Mural Project

Client:

Legion Branch 256 Mount Benson

Year:

2021

Founded by Veterans and for Veterans, the Legion advocates for the care and benefits for all who served Canada, and provides direct representation, support, and assistance. For this feature wall, the backdrop is filled with the four flags that Canadians have served under. The four portraits represent the four branches of service the Legion serves. The Navy is represented by late Snuneymuxw Seaman, Raymond Good (painted with permission). After his service, Raymond took a position with the Union of BC Indian Chiefs and later was appointed a a Special Advisor to the Federal Minister of Indian Affairs. Raymond died in 1995 and two years later his family laid his ashes to rest aboard Raymond’s ship, the former Saskatchewan, before it was sunk by the Artificial Reef Society of BC. To symbolize the Legion’s mission of remembrance, we included a Legionnaire helping the younger generations learn about the past, and perhaps most importantly, how to avoid repeating history.
