Journey of Honor: The Royal Canadian Legion Memorial Murals Project"

Picture this: We were approached with the task of adorning nearly every inch of the Legion's exterior with murals. They had a vision, and that vision was crafted through collaboration with their community. It wasn't about conflict; it was about showcasing people and finding ways to support the veterans in our midst.

The Legion shared inspiring stories of real people who deserved recognition for their bravery and sacrifice. Despite the hurdles of starting this project in the midst of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, dealing with wildfire smoke, product warehouse and shipping delays, as well as battling extreme August heat, we remained undaunted.

Armed with spray paint and determination, we transformed the Legion's exterior into a living canvas of stories. Each mural we painted had its unique tale to tell, and we can't wait for you to visit the Legion and discover the stories behind them.

Amidst this artistic journey, we faced an unexpected loss—the passing of our project manager and dear friend, Bill Eubank. Bill was more than just a manager; he was a passionate advocate for diversity and a walking encyclopedia of military history. He'd give us tours at the military museum, explaining medals, uniforms, and eras, all while proudly sporting his "Diversity Matters" T-shirt. Bill's memory lives on in the project he cared so deeply about.

Now, let's talk about the mural itself. It's not just about art; it's a heartfelt tribute. You'll see four flags representing the four branches of service the Legion supports and each area of service. The Navy section is dedicated to the late Snuneymuxw Seaman, Raymond Good, and we're grateful to his family for allowing us to honor him in this way. Raymond's post-service journey included serving with the Union of BC Indian Chiefs and becoming a Special Advisor to the Federal Minister of Indian Affairs. His legacy shines!

To capture the Legion's spirit of remembrance and education, we included a Legionnaire guiding the younger generation, passing on the wisdom of the past to ensure history doesn't repeat itself. This mural project embodies the values of remembrance, community, and support for our veterans, and we couldn't be prouder of the journey it represents.
